Still Swingin’

On Saturday, Albert Pujols went 4-4 with 2 HRs. In doing so, he became the oldest player to ever go 4-4 with 2 HRs. He now has 693 career homers as he chases down 700 in his final season.

Summer Swoon

The Yankees have now lost 25 of their last 37 games. During that nearly two month time period, only one team in all of MLB has a worse record – the Detroit Tigers. Hard to believe.

Against the Braves, the Mets Jacob deGrom took the loss in a 3-2 defeat. He pitched 6 2/3, gave up 3 runs, walked 0 and struck out 9. Since coming off the IL, the Mets are just 2-2 in deGrom’s starts despite his 0.51 WHIP with 37 Ks and just 1 BB.

Eight was Enough

In his last 8 starts with the Yankees, Jordan Montgomery failed to register a win. After being traded to the Cards, he has notched a victory in all 3 of his starts. In 16 2/3 innings, he has a 0.54 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP and 17 Ks with only 3 walks.

Eight and Counting

The Padres Manny Machado has at least 2 hits in 8 straight games. Only Tony Gwynn and Gary Sheffield have accomplished that feat in franchise history. Look for him to keep it going tonight vs. the Nats and Anibal Sanchez.
