A Good or Bad Draw for the US?

by MIke Griak | Nov 22, 2022 | Inside Cover

In their World Cup opener, the US team played to a 1-1 draw with Wales. While that may have been disappointing given their late lead in the match, they certainly are very much alive in group play. Historically, teams that win their opener in group play advance 84% of the time. Teams that play to an opening draw advance out of group play 59% of the time. A loss in the opener would’ve spelled doom (only 16% advance). So at least there’s that!
